April 2019

On March 11th, Bullfrog was at the Toronto Zoo to celebrate the additional federal funding received from the Low Carbon Economy Fund for the ZooShare Biogas plant. This funding will enable ZooShare to double the processing capacity from 17,000 tonnes of organics per year to 30,000+ tonnes. Bullfrog is one of the founding investors in the project, and is the official Education Sponsor. The ZooShare project turns manure from the Zoo and local food waste into renewable power for the Ontario grid as well as high-quality fertilizer. These materials are fed into an anaerobic digester where the greenhouse gases are captured and fed through a combustion engine to create electricity. This exciting project is expected to reach commercial operations in Spring 2020.

Marine Mammal Rescue Centre installs new solar panels

With the help of Bullfrog, the Vancouver Aquarium's Marine Mammal Rescue Centre (MMRC) was able to install a 4.8kW solar system that will provide it with 5,438 kWh per year for use on-site. The MMRC is a hospital and care facility for sick, injured, or orphaned marine mammals, and is the only facility of its kind in Canada.

Yoga for the planet at Downward Dog Yoga Centre

Earth Hour was celebrated around the world on March 30th from 8:30 to 9:30 PM local time. It aims to inspire people to take action for the planet, and encourage energy conservation year-round. In Toronto, our Bullfrog customers took part in an hour-long Earth-inspired candlelit yoga class to mark the occasion at bullfrogpowered Downward Dog Yoga Studio.

An inspiring look toward the future of our power industry

"The internal combustion engine is like a typewriter on wheels: an item from a past era and will be almost completely replaced by electric vehicles by 2030." That quote comes from Silicon Valley entrepreneur Tony Seba, a guest speaker at the inaugural edition of The  Future of Power event, hosted by Spark Power Corp. This groundbreaking event featured a panel discussion with Bullfrog VP of Sustainability Solutions Sean Drygas looking at how and why manufacturers are embracing renewable energy.

The highlight of the day was hearing from Tony and the other guest speakers: Author Gretchen Bakke and closing keynote presenter Colonel Chris Hadfield. They all shared insights on why trends like clean energy and power storage are essential to the way we live, work, and interact with each other.
